As someone who has worn eyeglasses my entire life, I must admit there is a certain appeal to being able to give up my glasses forever. If you are considering Lasik surgery for vision correction, there are many outstanding certified Lasik physicians in West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant and Charleston who can help.

Those of us in the Charleston low country and particularly those of us lucky enough to live in West Ashley, Lasik eye surgery has matured to point of being routine. We also have the extra plus of having a teaching hospital in town – Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). With the facilities available at MUSC, many talented Lasik doctors live in West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant or Charleston and many are well recognized for their work.

It is my preference to work with a local West Ashley or Charleston doctor instead of dealing with a national Lasik center. While the price may seem attractive, I consider my vision too valuable to trust to someone who is not established in West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant or Charleston.

If you have a problem, I’m going to want to see a doctor and not have to dial an “800” number and hope that someone answers. In this case the best price for a Lasik procedure may not be the best choice. Plus the Lasik conveyer belt companies often add hidden charges that will make the prices very similar.

There is one large advantage to the national Lasik chains. Often they have contracts with some of the better local Lasik physicians which means you may be able to get the exact same Lasik procedure from an established West Ashley, Mt Pleasant or Charleston doctor for a lower fee. It is worth doing some leg work and ask exactly who is their local Lasik surgeon, you may find it is the doctor you already liked.

Most of the established West Ashley, Mt Pleasant and Charleston Lasik eye care centers will charge a modest fee to determine if you’re a candidate for the procedure. It will include a full eye exam and mapping of your cornea. If you had RK surgery earlier you will likely not be a good candidate for Lasik.

In some cases Lasik eye surgery is covered by health insurance. If you are considering a Lasik procedure, it may be worthwhile, especially you have different health insurance options available at your work, to see which one will cover Lasik and change to that plan for a year. It could save you thousands of dollars.

In almost all cases, a Lasik eye center in West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant or Charleston will offer some form of financing or at the minimum accept credit cards.
